Caregiver Support Program

Marquette County Dept. of Human Services:

  • Alzheimer’s Family Caregiver Support Program (AFCSP): provides support related to the care of someone with an irreversible dementia, Qualification is based on a diagnosis and financial need. Services provided include information, referrals, education, service coordination, counseling and support groups, legal assistance on guardianship, respite services, adaptive equipment, transportation arrangements, safety evaluation, and funds for purchasing good and services. AFCSP can also assist with arranging supportive homecare, homemaker & chore services, and assistance with placement in an Adult Family Home, CBRF, or Nursing home.
  • Powerful Tools for Caregivers: an educational program designed to help caregivers balance selfcare and care of a relative or friend. Participants will learn how to: reduce stress, improve self-confidence, communicate feelings, increase ability to make tough decisions, and locate resources. Class meets once a week for six weeks. Class is free, caregiver help book is $20.
  • National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP): provides support services to informal or family caregivers. Availability for those taking care of an adult 60+, with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s / dementia, or those caring for children or disabled relatives. Services may include information and referrals, education, connection and coordination of services, counseling, respite, personal care, homemaker and chore services, adaptive equipment, and home safety evaluations.
  • Marquette County Caregiver Support Group: held the 3rdWednesday of every month virtually from 11am to Noon.  Contact the ADRC for more information.

Non-medical home care includes personal care, and help with everyday activities. Medicare certified home health care involves skilled nursing and rehabilitation.
